Ulises Guilarte, Secretary General of the Workers´ Central Union of #Cuba, condemned at the Anti-Imperialist Meeting the negative impacts of the Neoliberal model in the world as strategy to suffocate economically our peoples.

There are examples worldwide of such imperial strategy. Venezuela and Cuba are two of them. Both nations are under a fierce and genocidal economic, commercial, and financial blockade as well as laws such as the Helms-Burton Act, which violates all standards of the international law.

The Neoliberal model triggers, according to Guilarte, a structure of impunity that allows multinationals to burst into, plunder, replace, buy, and destroy the life of territories with no cost at all, or even sanction governments trying to regulate their operating range.

The growth of unemployment and social inequity, poverty, and forced migration are some of the consequences of the imperial strategy against the peoples of the world.

“In the case of Cuba, the U.S. blockade causes hardships on the Cuban people. The blockade deprives Cubans from purchasing inputs, medicines, and raw materials from U.S. companies, with the resulting interruption and blocking of industries.”

The blockade, he added, is a major setback for our development programs by limiting our access to funding sources and foreign investment. It also exerts political pressure and penalizes banks operating with our country.
