The first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, on November 16 received the president of the Federal Council of the Russian Federation’s Federal Assembly, Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko, who led her country’s delegation to celebrations for the 500th anniversary of Havana.
During the cordial meeting, both parties expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of bilateral relations shared by Russia and Cuba, highlighting the historical nature of these ties of friendship. They also discussed issues on the international agenda.
The distinguished visitor was accompanied by Andrei Guskov, ambassador of the Russian Federation in Cuba; Konstantin Kosachev, chairman of the Federal Council’s Committee on Foreign Relations; and Aleksandr Kramarenko, assistant to the Federal Council President.
First Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina González participated on the Cuban side, as well.
