The Sancti Spiritus-based Sur del Jibaro Agroindustrial Grains Enterprise (EAIG) signed contracts to export its products through the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM).

The deal with the Cuban trading company, Servicios Logisticos Mariel S.A., includes some 15 items such as rice, meat, fruits and vegetables, many of which are processed in different formats.

With this strategy the firm, which Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel described as an example of an efficient State socialist enterprise, seeks to continue to grow in terms of exports and import substitution.

According to EAIG commercial expert Pastor Roman, 1,600 tons of charcoal were exported in 2018 through the Citricos Caribe Import and Export Enterprise S.A., and exports are expected to increase to 2,000 tons this year.

It was learned that according to the 2020 plan, those volumes must increase two-fold, especially exports to Spain and other European countries.

The EAIG is currently one of Cuba's agricultural enterprises offering the most products for export.
