The start-up of the sugarcane harvest in Cuba shows an encouraging and very different from the past years, says.José Ramón Machado Ventura, Cuba’s Vice-president.

“We can see more effort, organisation and control of the problems of each sugar mill, although there are still many things to do and perfect,” Machado Ventura, who is also second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, said in Matanzas province.

He said that this beginning confirms the quality investments and repairs as well as the determination of the Matanzas sugar industry workers to eliminate the deficiencies identified in previous harvests.

He drew particular attention to the training of workers and cadres of the sector, which has already been seen in these first days of harvest.

On a visit to the mills Jesus Rabi, René Fraga and Mario Muñoz, Machado Ventura said they must grind stably and efficiently from the very beginning, with strict control to avoid technological and labour lack of discipline, as well as to further motivate workers.

The Cuban Vice-President said that to compensate and multiply somehow investments and gains of the workers it is necessary to increase the integral values that today show the mills, raising cane yields and improve efficiency in the manufacturing process.
