Cuba''s main victory in more than 50 years is that the U.S. government recognized the failure of its policy of hostility and blockade to the island, Mexican Senator Dolores Padierna said here today. Active activist of the Cuban Revolution and the just causes in her country and the world, the legislator expressed happiness for the "just, emotive and expected release for so many years of the Cuban Five, who served long years of imprisonment in the United States."

In exclusive interview with Prensa Latina, the senator of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) stated that beyond the announcement of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States, the most important ones were the words made by President Barack Obama recognizing the failure of a obsolete and even criminal policy.

This is a Cuba's great victory, the biggest lesson Washington has received, and that gave pleasure to all who in the world love that Caribbean island, and freedom and self-determination as a human rights, Padierna said.

The senator said the United States finally understood that a change is needed in its failed strategy towards Havana. When we listen to the presidents of Cuba and the United States make the announcements on September 17, and even the decision to normalize relations, we thought it was a dream, she said.

Amid the difficult times we are confronting in Mexico, of our tragedy, sadness and worries, that simultaneous communication between both heads of State gave us an immerse joy.
