Cuban First VP Has Intense Working Agenda in Pinar del Rio

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers, visited the Industrial Fisheries Company of La Coloma, to check on the volumes of lobster it processes, as part of a visit to the westernmost province of Pinar del Río.

The company processed two thousand 132 tons of lobster in 2014, and due to the importance of that line for the Cuban economy, Diaz-Canel requested to be informed on the different stages through which the product passes, the rules of safety and biosafety, besides diversifying the supply to the domestic tourism market with live lobster.

Diaz-Canel said his visit was an important experience, since the industry distinguishes Pinar del Rio and shows good indicators of quality, and spoke on the importance of meeting the demands of customers.

He also visited the Gervasio Hernández cooperative that gathers tobacco growers and learnt on the availability of the technological packages, soil preparations, collection and payments to farmers, among other topics.

The VP also went to the photo-voltaic park, which will contribute three megawatts per hour to the National Grid when becomes operational next June that will provide electricity to the water well pumps in the territory and to the housing projects where some 8 thousand people live.

At the end of the tour Diaz-Canel visited the Hermanos Saíz University where he asked on the integration of the three higher education centers in the province, on how that initiative is working and how students and professors had embraced it.

He also went to the headquarters of the provincial People´s Power Assembly, where he met deputies and discussed communication strategies of that body to address the needs of information of the people in the territory.
