Cuban FM, Bruno Rodriguez, met on Tuesday with representatives of Cuban Medical Brigade (CMB) in Guatemala in order to check the work and living conditions of the group that provides free services in 16 out of the 22 Guatemalan provinces.

Rodriguez met the Cuban physicians at the embassy, before attending the XX Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).

The official and the CMB´s representatives talked about the living conditions and the communication of Cuban health workers —472 in the country of which 67.8 % are women.

The national coordinator of the CMB, Manolo Torres, pointed Rodriguez that the twelve physicians working at La Tinta health center —located at the Alta Verapaz province— are looking after more than 35.000 patients, most of the living in extreme poverty.

Cuba´s ambassador in Guatemala, Carlos de Céspedes, and the national coordinator of the Operación Milagro (Miracle Operation), Mercedes Llano, also attended the meeting where the humanitarian work of Cuban physicians around the world was highlighted.

The CMB has saved 294.810 lives from November 1998 until February 28th last year, according to official statistics.
