CARICOM is looking to deepen its science and technology ties with Cuba.

The Caribbean Community announced that it would be sending a CARICOM Science Delegation to Cuba “in an effort to strengthen technology links between the region and its Spanish speaking neighbor,” according to a statement.

The delegation will be led by Professor Harold Ramkissoon, chairman of the CARICOM Science, Technology and Innovation Committee.

The move was announced by Grenada Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell, who currently holds the responsibility for science and technology at CARICOM.

“For his scholarly work, Professor Ramkissoon has been made a Foreign Fellow of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, and for his contribution to the development of Science and Technology in the wider Caribbean, he was presented with the Key to the City of Havana,” Mitchell said. “He is therefore strategically placed to open many doors for our region.”
