The 8th Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba will be held in this capital on July 28-30, 2016, announced the spokesman for the preparatory committee, Ivan Rodriguez. This time the continental meeting will be organized by the fridns of Cuba in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), added the source.

The accouncement was made by the Dominican Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba in a press conference at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the venue for the event.

"With this event we will give continuity to the solidarity with Cuba, in view of the persistence of the criminal blockade imposed by the United States on this brother country for over five decades," said Rodriguez.

He noted that despite the holding of talks to resume diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States, the blockade remains in force.

Participants of this 8th Meeting will be the local and national committees of solidarity, friends, intellectuals and representatives of social institutions, parties and political, cultural, educational movements, as well as farmers, women, youngsters and professionals from the whole region, he said.

The Organizing Committee said that all figures and organizations identified with these objectives will be welcomed to join the different working committees of the event.

On behalf of his country, the Cuban Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Carlos de la Nuez, appreciated the Dominican Campaign and the Latin American and Caribbean movements backing this initiative of solidarity with Cuba around the world.

The Cuban diplomat acknowledged that the return home of The Cuban Five and the start of diplomatic talks between the United States are very much related to efforts made by the movements of solidarity and men of goodwill that have backed the Cuban Revolution through the years.
