Esteban Lazo, member of the Politburo of the Cuban Communist Party and President of the National Assembly of People's Power, chaired on Friday in this capital the 15th Cuba-Mexico Inter-parliamentary Meeting aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.

Lazo said that the meeting will make it possible to find ways to increase economic, financial and trade links and make cooperation more effective.

During the opening of the forum, held at the Benito Juarez Center in Old Havana, Lazo asserted that the two countries are driven by the need to consolidate and speed up Latin American and Caribbean integration.

The Cuban Parliament President stressed the imperative of striving to find what unites us amid the diversity of philosophies, policies or different views on diverse issues.

He thanked Mexico for its independence in foreign policy, which always allowed it to extend a friendly hand and accompany Cuba in its demand for the release of the Five Heroes.

He also assessed as very positive Mexico's demand on the lifting the blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States, which remains intact.

As part of the program that will run until Saturday, the Mexican parliamentarians will know more about the updating of the island's economic model, the Foreign Investment Law, the Portfolio of Opportunities and the potential of the Special Development Zone of Mariel.

The progress of the process of reestablishment of relations between Cuba and the United States, developed on the basis of equal rights and mutual respect, will also be addressed.

Miguel Barbosa, president of the board of the Senate of the Republic of Mexico, expressed his wish to build a large unitary project according to the characteristics of each society.

The senator recalled that these meetings date back to 1996, which shows the importance of Cuba for the stability of the region.
Huerta advocated the elimination of the blockade, the development of joint cooperation projects in all possible areas and finding a solution to the maritime dispute that equally favors Cuba, Mexico and the United States.

Marianna Gomez del Campo, president of the Senate's International Relations Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean, recalled that this year marks the 113th anniversary of the establishment of uninterrupted relations between Cuba and Mexico
Several of the senators representing political parties present in that country's Congress, reaffirmed their willingness to work to increase economic bonds with Cuba and promote the necessary integration of Latin America.
