Cuba to Host New International Course on Dengue

Cuba will host a new edition of the International Course on Dengue, from August 10 to 21, in order to discuss the most relevant and current aspects of the disease and its control. Physicians, virologists, immunologists, sociologists, epidemiologists, entomologists, health administrators, along with professors from prestigious national and international institutions, will participate in the course, Cuban Health's Network, Infomed, posted on its website.

The Ministry of Public Health, the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Collaborating Center of PAHO/WHO for the Study of Dengue and its Vector at the "Pedro Kouri" Tropical Medicine Institute, are organizing the event.

During the meeting, participants will be updated on the global and regional epidemiological situation of that disease, and will discuss on clinical management of patients, vector control, progress in research on dengue in issues such as pathogenesis, vaccines of antiviral development, genetics of the patient, among others.

Also on the list is the influence of climate change in dengue and the confrontation of emergencies, as well as other aspects.

The progress and results for the implementation of the Integrated Management Strategy that the PAHO and the countries are developing in the Americas for the better confrontation of that complaint, along with other international initiatives, will be also under discussion.

Parallel to this event will be a three-day course of three days on Mathematical Models for Dengue prognostic.
