One of the five Cubans who were held in U.S. prisons for fighting terrorism and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Antonio Guerrero, thanked here today on behalf of the Cuban Five the solidarity and support for the release of the Asia-Pacific friendship associations with the island. If the Cuban Five are free today and I am in this so loved brother country, is thanks to the great solidarity with our people of many men and women in the world, stressed Guerrero, who described as very emotional moment speaking at the Seventh Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba.

Greeted by delegates standing with prolonged applause, Guerrero stressed his thanks: on behalf of the Cuban Five and their relatives, let me express to all friends of this distant region our eternal gratitude for the support and encouragement given to us.

He recalled that the example of great heroes of humanity, such as the father of the Vietnamese nation, Ho Chi Minh, to which thousands of letters from around the world reached the cells of the Cuban Five, was always in his struggle.

One of them, said the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, sent by Ho Thi Minh Nguyet, to whom he later wrote about his friendship with young Vietnamese people in the years he was a student in the former Soviet Union.

It was a friendship based on principles, of mutual respect and affection ... that was, is and will be the friendship between our peoples, geographically distant but united in the struggle for a better world of justice, peace and solidarity.

In his letter, Guerrero added: Knowing that our Vietnamese brothers are with us, in the same trench, fills us with force and reaffirms our faith in victory. Greetings to all comrades from Heroic Vietnam. We will overcome!.

That was my response in 2007 and in 2014 we won, recalled Guerreo, who met with the sender of the letter in Ho Chi Minh City two days ago.

After his speech and referring to the issue of the blockade, recognized as a priority issue in this two-day meeting, Guerrero told Prensa Latina that that policy "the Cubans feel it in their blood, day by day, and the world is aware of that injustice, which is an aggression brutal."

During this solidarity meeting, in this so distant region but so close to Cuba, we are confident that the unity in this regard will be strengthened, he stressed.

As part of the program of this meeting, an paintings exhibition by Antonio Guerrero was opened during his years of unjust imprisonment in the United States.
