The first phase of the Latin American tour of Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar, was completed in Havana, where he held talks with President, Raul Castro. After the official welcoming ceremony, the two leaders talked at the Palace of the Revolution, seat of executive, and attended the signing of agreements that facilitate cooperation between the two countries.

Those documents refer to the visa waiver for diplomatic staff, specialists and services between the two governments, in benefit of the cooperation in several fields.

They also confirm the willingness of Qatar's authorities to facilitate the implementation of investment during the coming five years in order to strengthen ties.

Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, and Minister for Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, signed the agreements on the Cuban side.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah, and Chief Executive Officer of Investment Authority, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani, did it for Qatar.

Al Thani's visit to Cuba is part of the development of bilateral relations, which began in 1989.

Both governments maintain ties of cooperation in several sectors, among them is the presence of the island's physicians in the Arab country, and the support of that nation to Cuba's claim to the cessation of the U.S. blockade.

The tour includes Mexico and Venezuela, where official meetings are expected with Presidents Enrique Peña Nieto and Nicolas Maduro, respectively, while he will meet with business executives and authorities in charge of ties with the Arab world.
