The Cuban embassy in Austria was left out of courier service after the company TNT Osterreich suspended the service, because it was purchased by the US company FedEx Corporation, the Cuban Foreign Ministry denounced today. The company, which is an affiliate in Austria of TNT Express N.V, reported to the diplomatic entity that it would not receive any more orders from Cuba or other countries that were under US sanctions.

The implementation of such measures against Cuba is illegal in Austria and the European Union in general, warned the foreign ministry on its website Cubaminrex.

The European Council adopted on November 12, 1996, the Rule 2271/96, regarding protection against the effects of the extraterritorial implementation adopted by a third country.

It is inadmissible that despite the the laws in force, rejection by the European Union, the World Trade Organization and the United Nations Organization of the blockade of Cuba, there are still European companies that ignore this situation and accept the implementation of extraterritorial coercive measures, said Cubaminrex.

The United States has been applying a unilateral economic, financial and trade blockade of Cuba for more than 50 years, a situation that has caused the loss of millions to this country.

The Cuban embassy in Austria attracted attention on the problems that suspension of the courier service would bring, especially to the consular procedures by that diplomatic entity.
