Tropico 2016 Convention in Cuba Discusses Top Issues

The 5th Tropico 2016 convention is today on its penultimate day of sessions in Havana. The slogan for the convention is 'For a Culture of the Land and Life' and is being attended by around 400 delegates from 17 countries.

The aim of the convention is to join forces to exchange ideas and results, regarding issues such as food sustainability and urban agriculture.

Environmental management, disaster prevention, loss of biodiversity, sustainable land management, improving environmental and forest legislation, environmental economy, among others, are also on the list of discussion for the event.

Parallel to this Convention, is the 5th session of the Conference of Tropical Geography, the 5th Conference of Tropical Agriculture, the 4th Conference of Biodiversity and Tropical Ecology, and the 4th Conference of Tropical Meteorology.

The conference of Tropical Agriculture will also analyze the experience of self-management by local farmers' markets in Chile and integration in the food chain in Ecuador.

The event on Biodiversity and Tropical Ecology includes a round table discussion: Review of local knowledge about biodiversity, its use and economic, social and environmental impacts, arising from public policies in Mexico.

The Tropical Meteorology conference will also discuss the weather conditions that caused intense heat in Cuba in April 2015.

The 5th Tropico 2016 convention, which will conclude tomorrow at the Conference Center in Havana, is dedicated to World Environment Day, on June 5th.
