Vietnamese Leader Pledges More Efforts to Strengthen Ties with Cuba

President of Vietnam’s National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan confirmed today they will continue making great effort to promote the development of relations with Cuba, while receiving ambassador Herminio López.

In a meeting at the Parliament headquarters, Kim Ngan - who has been in the position since March 31st- pledged to do everything possible to strengthen bilateral ties, a goal he has always pursued as head of the Association for Vietnam-Cuba Friendship.

He stressed the importance of this Association in the consolidation of relations and reiterated his willingness to work in issues of interest for these to endure.

In addition, he voiced interest in increasing exchanges between both legislative organs, including high-level visits with that end.

He also congratulated Cuba’s Communist Party for its recent successful Congress and sent regards to his first secretary Raúl Casto and the rest of the leaders and the people.

Meanwhile, the Cuban ambassador said he felt "joy and pride" to know that a friend of Cuba’s has such a high responsibility and has done so much for bilateral ties.

When referring to the current state of relations, he said that the main challenge is still strengthening the economic-commercial ties at the political levels.
