Chinese President Meets Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa

President, Xi Jinping, has met the Cuban Vice President, Salvador Valdes Mesa in Beijing. Valdes Mesa, is on an official visit to the city to inform the Chinese authorities of the results of the 7th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC). Xi conveyed congratulations to his Cuban peer, President Raul Castro, for the success of the 7th PCC Congress held in April in Havana.

He also recalled his visit in July 2014 to the Caribbean island, which he described as unforgettable and highlighting his warm welcome.

"I visited, along with comrade Raul Castro, the heroic city of Santiago de Cuba, and I could see the glorious history of the Cuban Revolution," he said.

Valdes Mesa conveyed thanks from President Raul Castro, for the praise the latter had received after the conclusion of the 7th PCC Congress. He also explained the scope of the Cuban economic and social development model detailed in the 2030 national economic and social development plan.

Both sides stated their mutual support and exchange their experiences of the construction of socialism and the leadership of their respective Communist Parties.

Valdes Mesa arrived in China on June 24th. He started the visit by touring Shanghai, where the Communist Party of China was founded 95 years ago.
