Deputy FM boosts cooperation in Cuba
Deputy Foreign Minister Mario Giro was in Cuba on Tuesday to strengthen economic, development and cultural cooperation with Italy.
"I am pleased to report the strong commitment by major Italian industrial groups, particularly in the hotel and cruise sectors," Giro said. "Tourism, together with the entire Cuban economy, will derive further benefit from revamping port and railway infrastructure and our companies...are ready to play their part," he continued. The deputy foreign minister described his mission as the "natural continuation" of growing bilateral relations over the last three years, which have also seen the historic visit by Cuban President Raul Castro to Rome in May 2015 and by Italian Premier Matteo Renzi to Cuba last October.
There is also potential for collaboration in the energy sector, thanks to the potential leadership role of green energy companies such as Enel Green Power and other Italian firms, Giro said.
