President Nicos Anastasiades has sent a message of condolence to the President of Cuba Raul Castro after the death of his brother, Fidel Castro, noting that he will always be remembered in Cyprus as a true friend.

“It is with great sorrow that I have received the sad news of the passing away of your brother and historic leader of the Republic of Cuba, Fidel Castro Ruz. Fidel Castro Ruz will always be remembered in my country as a true friend of Cyprus,” he stressed in his message.

President Anastasiades added that “his friendship and close ties with Cyprus and it’s first President Archbishop Makarios date back to the period of the joint participation of our two countries in the Non Aligned Movement. He is greatly appreciated for the solidarity he extended to the people of Cyprus and to their efforts for the solution of the Cyprus problem”.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Cyprus and myself, I wish to convey to you and to the people of Cuba my deepest condolences for the passing of Fidel Castro Ruz,” he concluded.
