The Third Way in Cuba: The Acrobat’s Drama

The Third Way approach emerged in England as a way to disguise and tone down the pillage of capitalism, accelerated after the collapse of Socialist projects in East Europe. It has not generated, as some gurus foretold, the necessary conditions so that poor people in the world can survive, produce, and consume. It has triggered a brutal worsening of living conditions, more poverty, insalubrity, and insecurity.

The representatives of the so-called Centrism in Cuba, who introduce themselves as a third way —an intermediate way between capitalism and socialism— try to show with a series of sophisms the ineffectiveness of the revolutionary path, as they deny the Revolution.

New words for old principles. The same formula was used to undermine the Revolution by the end of the 1950s and the early years of 1960s. It also occurred in the 1980s when a group of artists with emerging aesthetic proposals were used to promote the ideas of the third way. With the same purpose, international scholarships were used as well. Such scholarships had other purposes and tried to create confusion and division in complex times for Socialism in East Europe, especially targeting young artists and literary intellectuals.

The plot of the story

On May 14th, 2004 a group of U.S. officials, diplomats from allied countries, and CIA officials gathered at the house of a prominent U.S. official who worked at the U.S. Interest Section (USIS) in Havana, Francisco Saenz. I, writer and professor at the University, attended that meeting as Special Guest.

One hour earlier, the Cuban people had starred a demonstration in front of the USIS to protest against the hardening of the economic war on Cuba, as well as the threats of the U.S. president George W. Bush. Ten years later, the president of the same nation acknowledged the failure of such obsolete policy and tried to reach the same goal but using a different strategy. A logical move was to end the stick approach and thus, the Obama’s administration betted on projects like Genesis, Cuba Posible, etc.

In the U.S. home, Bush’s measures were celebrated; nonetheless, some spoke about the possibility of a change in the strategy to put an end to the Revolution in case Bush’s plans fail. The War against the historical leader was already lost. Other options had to be explored; for instance, the Chilean-like agreement or the Spanish-like transition.

Francisco Saenz spoke of a new way that men like me should start. He made reference to intellectuals, culture people, and scientists. Several names came up as well as the possibility to outline a way that most of the Cuban people would accept. The general consensus was that we must pave the way for a Cuba without Fidel and Raul Castro.

The “new way,” thirteen years after Bush’s measures to starve Cuba, the primitive language returns in the words of another president: Donald Trump.

Within the Eagle Sight

This was the first meeting of many. Kelly Keiderling, Head of Press and Culture at the USIS, began organizing with me social gatherings with artists not-openly committed to the counter-revolution. The “attraction” would be to discuss about Cuban reality.

Katrin Hansing, introduced as Kelly’s friend and partner at the Georgetown University, had the mission of summoning to the gatherings one renowned university professor. Today, this professor is a “constitution reformist”, a “promoter” of constitutional changes. Publishers of religious institutions like Espacio Laical and Vitral attended these meetings.

Those social gatherings did not meet their goals due to the poor participation of guests and the incriminating nature of the place, Kelly’s residence.

Afterwards, the idea was to create a Literary Agency approved by the Ministry of Culture. The goal was to have an independent organization open to all where writers and artists could “exchange views freely” and therefore, create the needed literary basis with future perspective.

Project Genesis

CIA Project Genesis is born in 2007 and its main target is the Cuban youth as well as the revolutionary sectors.

Genesis should have come to fruition in period of time of 10-15 years and came to light when the historical leaders of the Revolution were not alive. The new technologies of the information and communication, and the Internet would play a paramount role to promote contents and demonstrations.

A framework of leaders planted in economical, political, and social centers should have been created. It was interesting that Project Genesis must have given priority to those leaders of youth organizations such as UJC, or FEU for leadership grant.

We are talking about an organization “spread” in the universities, which should admit young students and professors linked to programs sponsored and financed by the enemy with artistic, academic, cultural, and social projects in the communities.

Genesis should have presented itself as a national option, born to defend our socialism, not to “update it” in order to lead the country through “modern” paths according to the most “notable” of the European and Latin American thought. A third way to plant confusion and chaos, aiming at destroying the unity of the country.

A small detail, this organization, had its schedule. It was composed of two committees: one executive and one consultative. The executive one was composed of Cubans while the consultative was composed of Americans. No decision could have been taken without the express approval of the consultative committee.

After the Complaint

On April 2011, as part of the public complaint known as Las Razones de Cuba, the monstrosity could not see the light. The social base composed of incredulous young people did not exist. It was hard for them to find young leaders and train new cadres, the most valuable young men in the country. These young men supported and support the Revolution.

They got back to work and tried to reorganize the job. Ted Henken carried out an inquiry in the Cuban blogosphere, identifying possible allies. He sought for any gap, and studied candidates.

Digital platforms with a centrist tendency emerged in the country by that time. Students, university professors, communication professionals operated the web. These people were linked to several courses financed by NGOs, programs and international scholarships, educational exchange programs, and other activities financed by private enterprises and mass media.

The former editors of Espacio Laical Roberto Veiga and Lenier Gonzalez funded the entity “Cuba Posible”. Few weeks after its foundation, Cuba Posible organized a great “academic” event in the U.S.

On May 26th, 2016 the Open Society Foundations hosted in its headquarters in New York the “Laboratorio de Ideas (Laboratory of Ideas)” Cuba Posible. The event held in New York, financed by Ford Foundations and Open Society, was about the “present challenges of Cuba.” The same Open Society of George Soros, the millionaire philanthropist involved in Color Revolutions and Soft Coups, the genocide behind Ukraine, Venezuela, etc…

The Empire new strategy created a media branch composed of platforms fostering a third way that may add leaders from the intellectual world as well as journalists and academicians. The goal was to attract a growing public by using captivating language and code.

They use popular tools in the marketing world as the storytelling in order to reach a better empathy with the audience.

They bet on moving the revolutionary ideology to the center after having failed with old formulas and witnessed how their best-elaborated plans have collapsed. They aimed at adding more people to the ideological, comfortable, and opportunistic ambivalence from an allegedly neutral approach to undermine the Revolution.

They promote the ideological lack of definition, the abandonment of principles, lack of commitment, and political inactivity. They boast to be nationalists and left-winged. They remain within the institutions, academies, cultural and scientific centers, in the mass media, but always against the Socialist state, the Communist Party and its anti-imperialist and revolutionary tradition.

But they have a big drama: they need a critical mass of people who may be far from the principles of the Revolution. And it did not happen. The vast majority of the Cuban people have opted for the socialist way along with the Communist Party of Cuba. And we are willing to change everything that must be changed, except for our souls and the sovereign soul of Cuba.

The Third Way, which is counterrevolutionary by its essence, has been the most powerful tool used by powers when they feel something is wrong. They see it in Cuba under this new Empire strategy as a B plan to undermine the Revolution from within. They tend to confuse and deceive the audience while walking a tightrope, where they go forward and backward, according to the U.S. instructions.

The Third Way, the Cuban centrism, was created in test tubes in the enemy subversion headquarters. Its leaders, disguised before the challenging task of finding new allies, were raised under the eagle shadow and its essence unmasked them.

Trump ratifies his fight against the “tyranny of communism” in Cuba

“The fact is that the deal with Cuba is bad”, claimed Trump, who reaffirmed his aim to sweep with the great agreements signed by the previous Administration.

U.S. President Donald Trump pledged on Wednesday to fight the “tyranny of communism”, which in his opinion is applied on the island of Cuba.

"The United States will fight the tyranny of communism”, he stated during a speech before his supporters in the state of Iowa.

Trump, who retook actions against Cuba, ratified his interest in dismantling the agreements signed by former US President Barack Obama, particularly the warming of relations between Washington and Havana.

"The fact is that the deal with Cuba is bad”, said Trump, who advocated to achieving “a much better deal”.

The move announced by Trump last June 16 confirms the continuity of the economic, commercial and financial blockade on Cuba and toughens the restrictions over businesses with enterprises linked to authorities of Havana, besides banning private trips to the island.

Several countries in the world, especially from the American continent, have rejected the measures taken by Donald Trump and urged to resume the warming of relations started by the previous US Administration.

In his statements, Trump criticised again his predecessor in the White House, the “catastrophic” Paris Agreement and the “dishonest” media.

"This is great: Obama made a deal with Cuba, where thousands of people are incarcerated, made a deal with Iran; and then they say that Trump is a horrible person”, this is incredible”, he asserted.

Trump: Increases Opposition to His “Cuban” Politics

Another analyst from a far-right publication from Florida, this time Guillermo Descalzi, wrote a harsh critic to President Donald Trump.

He did it in the New Herald and it revolved about his Miami speech where last Friday he established changes in his behavior toward Cuba.

Descalzi began saying, there is lack of unity, logic, kindness, and generosity in our politics, trade and society.

Then he crushed Washington Congress when he said that most of its members say to work for the nation, “but it’s not like way.”

And he claimed, first they struggle for their positions, then their party, third to defeat the “others”, fourth with ordinary ideas to deviate the attention.

Fifth, he kept saying, for their well-being, sixth to ‘please', seventh to convince.

“There is ranting,” added Guillermo Descalzi, when he who pushed him to throw James Comey off the FBI headquarters now investigates him for doing so.”

After that he says that in the White House there’s a president that either supports them or goes against them.

But the journalist's toughest criterion came when he wrote that “Trump is cracking the floor beneath his feet” with Nixonian attitudes.

He even dares saying that being in the President’s proximity is dangerous and his closest relatives are beginning to get protection.

Even Pence, his second in command, a lawyer hired to defend his interests.

Descalzi comments, if the United States vice-president does that, you can just imagine the rest.

Then he quotes the example of the famous medical reformation which content has not been read yet by the democrats and only for a handful of republicans.

As a conclusion the analyst outlines: Trump hardened the politics toward Cuba for human rights violation.

He also ordered to strengthen the efforts to widen Internet access in Cuba.

Although this is a positive action, it’s aimed at pleasing his Cuban voters in Florida.

If it was a decision of principle, estimates Descalzi, he would also harden our politics toward Saudi Arabia, where human rights are violated.

But there isn’t a Saudi Arabian exile to please here, where seeking money is the goal, and they have plenty over here.

Something seems objective, the changes Trump imposed to the politics toward Cuba cannot hit home smoothly, they’ll never will.

All of these happens while his Administration is still spattered of many and bothersome suspicions.

Iran Denounces New US Bans on Cuba

Iranian foreign ministry spokesman has slammed Washington for imposition of new bans and restrictions on Cuba.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran rejects the new [US] restrictions against Cuba, and does believe that the world experience has proven sanctions are ineffective as a tool to exert pressure on independent nations in order to undermine their determination,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said.

In a Farsi interview with IRNA, he said Washington has a dark record of imposing such sanctions on independent peoples.

“The Cuban people’s resistance and resolve over the past five decades have rendered ineffective all policies and measures adopted by the US to bully as well as impose sanctions and exert pressure on this country,” the spokesman said.

He said it is surprising that American politicians have not yet learned a lesson from past experience and continue to pursue their futile, wrong and useless policies and insist on ignoring the independence of nations, showing off their policy of bullying to the international community more than ever.

Qassemi condemned and expressed regret over Washington’s move against Cuba, and added Iran follows a policy of backing independent nations around the world.

US President Donald Trump on Friday that the US would impose new limits on US travelers to Cuba and ban any payments to the military-linked conglomerate that controls much of the island’s tourism industry.

He said the US would consider lifting those and other restrictions only after Cuba returned fugitives and made a series of other internal changes including freeing political prisoners, allowing freedom of assembly and holding free elections.

Casanova contributes 27 points to Cuban victory

Heidy Casanova recorded a tournament-high 27 points as Cuba stormed past Chile in straight sets 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-19) improving their record at 2-1 in Pool B of the XVI Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by Movistar at Eduardo Dibós Coliseum of Lima on Monday. Chile is winless in three outings.

Casanova was the only Cuban player with double figures in the balanced offense of Cuba where Regla Gracia and Laura Suarez contributed 9 and 8 points, respectively. Catalina Melo was the best Chilean with 14 points.

Cuba dominated in attacks 53-26 and held the advantages in blocks and 6-3 in service winners.

Sulien Matienzo, Captain of Cuba: “We went out to battle for the points and now we have to play hard against Dominican Republic in our next match.”

Catalina Melo, Captain of Chile: “It was a very tough match, but we need to learn to play against teams like Cuba. I think we have been playing better and better.”

Wilfredo Robinson, Coach of Cuba: “We didn’t want to allow that many points to Chile, but they have grown with the competition. Our goal is to win at least one set or two against Dominican Republic.”

Eduardo Guillaume, Coach of Chile: “The attack of Cuba was very strong as usual, but today they were accurate also. It was very difficult for us to play.”

Trump against Cuba: The annexionist Roar and Anger

How can we talk on behalf of freedom of the Cuban people aloud from the U.S. and singing the Anthem of the empire?

As an expert ventriloquist Senator Marco Rubio made the United States President talk at a ceremony in June 16th in Miami, to shift a gear backwards in the thaw between the United States and Cuba, which started Barack Obama on December 17, 2014.

As an obedient puppet, Donald Trump repeated, word by word, the speech that for almost more than half a century the anti-Cuban mafia of Miami has had in its aggressive politics against the Cuban Revolution.

In order to justify overnight the cancelation of the agreement between Cuba and United States, Trump described as heroes the mercenaries defeated in Playa Girón and a supposed "opposition" that only exists in the CIA payrolls and the feverish minds of former Batista soldiers living in Miami, Florida.

Between denunciations and nonsense, the current president announced that he would restrict business and tourism with Cuba until the Island didn't respect human rights of the peaceful dissidents, or what’s the same, until Cuba accepted at just the tip of the iceberg of North American interests a "dissidence" created and encouraged by repeated North American administrations. An strategy that, as former president Obama assured, for 50 years, only lead to failure the long dream of defeating the Cuban revolution.

Regardless the circus show, Trump’s words were a master class of what the North American democracy really is. According to experts, the act in Miami rather than thanking the support of mercenaries from Playa Girón in last elections was an "exchange" with the senator of Cuban origin Marco Rubio, current member of the Select Commission of Intelligence of the Senate who defended the leader at an hearing last June 8th with the former FBI director James Comey during the trial best known as Rusiagate.

As The New Herald recently published: "Two days after the hearing, Rubio and his colleague of the intelligence commission, senator Tom Cotton, republican of Arkansas, Trump and a small group of legislators had dinner with the president at the White House, and Rubio has been working closely with the White House to rewrite the politics of the nation towards Cuba in the past few weeks."

That is the current leader who is also sued by more than 200 democratic senators for violating the North American Constitution after accepting payments of foreign governments in their companies, apparently, as a good businessman; he looked for his personal interests first over those of the majority which supposedly must privilege the so-called American democracy.

In his electoral campaign that lead he to presidency, Trump used the slogan of "Making America Bigger" through the defense of the interests of North Americans and to that purpose he promised more business and more employments for the citizens of that country, something that overtly contradicts his radical change of Washington’s politics towards Cuba.

According to a survey performed by the North American Association against Blockade, Engage Cuba, the measures announced by the President will cause losses to the U.S. economy for more than 6600 million dollars and would affect 12 295 North American employments during the first period of the Administration.

On top of all incongruities, only a few weeks ago a group of North American legislators presented a Law proposal so that their fellow citizens can travel freely to Cuba. The proposal was presented in the Senate of the North American Congress, supported by 55 out of the 100 members. Other two senators of the red party and equal number of democrats presented the Freedom to Export to Cuba Act. With these laws the current barriers to business would be eliminated, including the original authorization of 1961 to establish the commercial embargo and the later legislations that demanded the completion of those politics.

A survey recently published assures that 65% of North American voters, among them more than six out of 10 republicans, support the politics towards Cuba approved by Barack Obama’s administration (2009-2017)

It’s clear that, in exchange for saving his scandalous neck, the president preferred to benefit a minority whose business consists on the so-called anti-Castro industry which for half a century has been the only North American sector that has made economic profits of the disagreement between Cuba and the United States.

Lies have been all this time his main motive. When Playa Girón the Kennedy's government was convinced that after the mercenaries disembarked in Cuba. A massive uprise would occur supporting the invasion due to the unanimous dissatisfaction of the people with the recently established revolutionary government. Today, they still deceive President Donald Trump with the same story.

And if I said earlier “North American sector” it’s because, as people could see in the circus show at the Manuel Artime Theater of Miami, "Cubans" who accompanied Trump yelled instead of Cuba, U.S., and the leader himself eulogized the violin solo of the U.S. anthem interpreted by another alleged Cuban. What’s more, Trump assured that his country flag was a symbol of hopes for Cubans. Undoubtedly the worst part of the ceremony, because the threats and slander against Cuba, are nothing new.

How can we talk on behalf of freedom of the Cuban people aloud from the U.S. and singing the Anthem of the empire?

The setback in history starred by Donald Trump in Miami is not about, as a few have said, a return to the Cold War, but the shameless proclamation of annexionist pretenses of the United States towards Cuba. Not even at the times of the proclamation of John Quincy Adams’ of "the politics of ripe fruit", neither the intervention of 1899 act an unworthy and stupid act have ever hap
