Italian tour operators hosted by Cuban Ambassador

H.E. Jose Carlo Rodriguez Ruiz, Cuban Ambassador to the Italian Republic, hosted a delegation of Italian tour operators. This delegation represented Cuba operators and the country’s largest hotel chains. He hosted the event in his Roman residence at the peak of a roadshow. Meetings were scheduled in Salerno Foggia Pescara and Rome cities.

In the short welcome speech to a large audience of travel agents, the Ambassador highlighted the attractions of Cuba. He also talked about the historical values that unite Cub with Italy. This included the architecture of some of the most famous buildings projected by Italian architects: Vittorio Garatti and Roberto Gottardi. The Italian tour operators in attendance were reminded of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the founding of Havana still in progress. This will end with great pomp in the coming month of November.

And the beat goes on

After all, the ambassador said, this event will be repeated in another 5 centuries!

“We have chosen to repeat this year the formula ‘Cuba presents itself’ for several reasons,” said Madelén Gonzalez-Pardo Sanchez, Councilor of Tourism of the Embassy of Cuba in Italy in her speech. “First of all it is an appreciated format, recognized and effective, but above all it has allowed us to reach Italian cities normally outside the main roadshow circuits.

“The delegation of the roadshow that will culminate at the TTG Travel Experience in Rimini represents a very important meeting point with the operators of the sector and the travel agents, to whom we want to give a clear message, of optimism and confidence: Cuba is there!”

Fiesta time!

Both the Ambassador and the Councilor gave brief introductory speeches which turned into a “fiesta” with songs and dances. This was accompanied by a tasting of Cuban culinary specialties and by drawing some trips offered by the Italian tour operators.

The Fiesta Cubana will continue also in Rimini on the evening of October 10. Then it will celebrate the success of the commercial promotion put in place for a greater presence of Italian tourists in Cuba.

Important attributions for the State Council to be elected in Cuba

The Parliament of Cuba will elect the President and Vice President of the Republic on October 10, but before that the deputies will vote for the integration and ownership of the Council of State.

It is the collegiate body that represents the National Assembly of Popular Power between sessions, executes its agreements and fulfills other functions that the Constitution and the law attribute to it.

This is stated in the Magna Carta approved in April, whose article 121 provides that the president, vice president and secretary of the National Assembly of Popular Power are in turn the State Council, which cannot be integrated by members of the Council of Ministers nor the highest authorities of the judicial, electoral and state control bodies.

The election, like that of the highest state offices in the nation, was preceded by the approval in July of the new Electoral Law and the bureau of the National Candidacies Commission.

This body developed a consultation process with the deputies of the island between September 18 and 22.

It was an occasion to gather proposals on those legislators who must integrate the candidacy projects and will be submitted to Parliament for consideration this October 10.

Among the powers of the State Council is to ensure compliance with the Constitution and laws, issue decree-laws and agreements, and arrange for extraordinary sessions of Parliament.

Also summon and agree on the date of the elections to renew the National Assembly of Popular Power and municipal assemblies.

The Council of State can suspend presidential decrees, agreements and other provisions that contradict the Constitution and laws.

This body can assume, at the proposal of the President of the Republic, the powers to declare the State of War or War in the event of aggression or peace.

Likewise, among other attributions, ratify and denounce international treaties, approve the modalities of foreign investment that correspond to it and examine and approve, between one and another session of Parliament, the necessary adjustments to the State budget.

Cubans denounce US blockade damages to communications system

Cuban communications workers denounced on Tuesday the damages to the development of the sector caused by the US blockade, which in the last year were valued at over 55 million dollars.

At a hearing convened by the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) Services Committee, those present rejected the limitations on purchasing technologies, information flow and Internet access caused by the US blockade.

They also pointed out that the tightening of Washington's hostile policy impacts essential technological processes in the computerization of Cuban society.

The President of the Telecommunications Company of Cuba (ETECSA), Mayra Arevich, confirmed that this entity is the most affected by the blockade, since it is subject to almost 99 percent of the total amount of damages in the sector.

She also referred to the use by the United States of cyberspace to try to subvert the Cuban political and legal systems, a role for which Washington created the Internet Task Force for Cuba in 2018.

Arevich noted that Cuba was forced to spend over two billion dollars above price in the international market last year to purchase the necessary supplies for ETECSA, due to being unable to purchase goods from the United States.
