Popular Cuban all-female orchestra Anacaona to celebrate its 85th anniversary with a group of important activities that comprise, among other actions, concerts across Havana’s neighbourhoods, performances in provinces, the release of a new disc and a big concert at Mella Theater, in October. Their guest artist will be singer Omara Portuondo, former member of the renowned Cuban orchestra in the 1940’s.

As part of the festivities, the orchestra, directed by Georgia Aguirre, will perform next Saturday (25th) night, in Havana’s Parque Metropolitano within the program of the second edition of the Salsa Festival.

The concerts across Havana’s neighbourhoods will kick off on Prado and Neptuno, Old Havana, next March 4th. Other sites where they will perform are: Plaza Roja, in 10 de Octubre municipality, on April 22; the parking lot of the Latinoamericano Stadium, in Cerro municipality, on May 3; Parque Trillo, in Central Havana municipality, on June 17; and Plaza 26 de Julio, in Cotorro municipality; in Alamar, on August 26, closing the summer.

For its part, the Cuban Music Institute (ICM, by its Spanish acronym) will organize performances of the orchestra in the theaters of provincial capitals.

The Artistic Representation Agency of ARTEX, Clave Cubana, which Anacaona belongs to, Bis Music Recording House and Commercial Division “Lauros”, both from ARTEX, will join this well-deserved tribute. Bis Music will produce a CD with hit themes from the orchestra and an audiovisual, whereas “Comercial Lauros” will dress the girls with works from its new line Cubali, which it will launch at 2017 Arte en La Rampa Fair.
