American Byron Stripling Honors Louis Armstrong in Cuba

American trumpeter Byron Stripling has paid tribute today to his compatriot, Louis Armstrong, during a jazz concert accompanied by awarded Cuban pianist Aldo Lopez Gavilan.

Considered among the best jazz players and performers of his instrument in his country, Stripling performed for an audience that filled the centennial Tomas Terry Theater in this city, venue of the second concert of the American artist in Cuba after one carried out two years ago at the Fine Arts Palace in Havana.

His tribute to Armstrong (1901-1971) is the most popular orchestral pop program in the United States and this time he showed why, by combining virtuosity in trumpet with a powerful voice.

Lopez Gavilan, playing the piano, led a three-musician band in which drummer Yissi Garcia shone, and promoted along with the guest artist the most popular cheers of the evening.

The program also included four pieces composed as a duet between Stripling and the Cuban pianist, including the premiere of the blues 'New Orleans in Old Havana'.
