It is not Paris or New York, and certainly Havana does not set the trend of world fashion, but our city holds this year its very own Fashion Week, from October 25, at the Old Wood and Tobacco Warehouse Brewery.

It is a determination of the textile department of the Cuban Association of Artistically Craftsmen (CAAC) and more than 70 designers from all over the country are attending.

Since Wednesday to Sunday, after 20:00 hrs, the 46 scheduled fashion shows have already started. Things to be exhibited will be: clothes, goldsmithing, costume jewelry, leather, and other art forms.

According to organizers, the event wants to “highlight the importance of fashion as a human need beyond frivolity.”

The exhibition hall, located in Old Havana, allows a more fruitful exchange among craftsmen, models, and the public. The catwalks will be more visible than in previous editions and an ongoing variety of food is in place.

Besides each designer collection, themed fashion shows on wedding dresses, children clothes, ball gowns, and beach accessories are exhibited as well.

The Fashion Week’s goal is to foster domestic production as well as the acquisition of artisan products. It also has an illustrative vocation, having into account the growing demands of the Cuban people.

The event is backed by the Ministry of Culture, the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets, the National Council of the Arts, and the Field Office of UNESCO.
