Bob Dylan Joins Others For LGBT-Theme Wedding EP

Dylan is among several musicians and singers reimagining classic love songs as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender songs for the album.

Activist, Nobel Peace Prize winner, author, singer Bob Dylan has lent his voice to an LGBT-themed wedding song for the album “Universal Love.”

Dylan is among several musicians and singers reimagined classic love songs as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender songs for the album which was recently released.

Co-producer Tom Murphy said: “If you look at the history of pop music, love songs have predominantly come from one heterosexual perspective. If we view music as something that brings people together, shouldn’t these popular songs be open to everyone?”

Dylan reinvented the classic “She’s Funny That Way” to fit the theme of the compilation. All the songs on the album will translate an inclusive theme, putting a spin on the tracks by switching pronouns or having male and female singers reverse traditional roles.

The album's producer Rob Kaplan told The New York Times that, “it wasn’t just ‘Yes, I’ll do this’. It was ‘Hey, I have an idea for a song,’” regarding the collaborative process with the iconic performer. “The response was completely positive,” Kaplan added.

Acts including St. Vincent, Kesha, Valeria June, Ben Gibbard and Kele Okereke also feature on the six-track EP.

Kesha covered Janis Joplin’s “I Need a Man to Love.”

“For years I said that I’m not getting married until any two people can legally marry in this country,” the artist explained.

The album is a project of MGM Resorts International, Interpublic Group of Companies’ ad agency McCann and Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music.
