Circus Artists Show Skills at Circuba Int'l Festival

Havana, Jun 25 (Prensa Latina) Circus artists from 19 countries are showing their skills in this capital with the aspiration to win a prize at the 17th International Festival Circuba 2018.

Under the motto 'Feel it, live it, love it', the event will gather here some 70 artists, until June 29, including 48 from Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Italy, Japan, Uruguay, Portugal, the United States, Costa Rica and Switzerland.

Carol Gandey, a member of the European Circus Association, will preside over the jury of the event, which will also be composed of circus directors Iñaki Fernandez (Spain), Zhang Pengjian (China) and 10 other circus professionals.

The China Performing Arts Agency, the clowns Paquin Jr. and Angelo (Mexico), along with Circo Gran Fele, (Spain), will stage in the most relevant shows of the day at the Trompoloco big top, in the Havana municipality of Playa.

As part of the event, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) will grant for the first time to participants under 18 years of age a collateral award that focuses on the struggle for the rights of children and youth.

Those attending the shows at the Teatro Nacional de Cuba's Avellaneda Hall will also be able to enjoy the exhibition '5/50: a Tribute to the 50th anniversary of Cuba's National Circus', by the Spanish photographer Josep Guindo.

The prestigious Cuban composer and a member of Hollywood's Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Edesio Alejandro, joined the festivities this year with a new song: 'Es por Ti' (It is for You).
