Platino Award 2018 Includes Cuban Film in First Pre-selection

The 5th Platino Award of Ibero-American Cinema announced today its first preselection of nominees, which includes the Cuban film ''Ultimos dias en La Habana,'' by director Fernando Perez.

The film could be nominated as Best Film, Best Direction, and Best Screenplay.

The film could be also nominated as Best Editing, Best Photography and Best Sound Direction. Cuban actor Jorge Martinez might be nominated as Best Actor, while the feature film 'Ultimos dias en La Habana' could be nominated for the best film award along with the Chilean film 'Una mujer fantastica', by Sebastian Lelio and 'Zama', by Argentinean filmmaker Lucrecia Martel.

According to organizers, the award ceremony will take place on February 20th at the Gran Tlachco theater, at the Xcaret park, in the Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Other films included among the nominees for the Platino Awards are the Spanish 'La Libreria', by Isabel Coixet, and 'Verano 1993' by Carla Simon.

The film 'Carpinteros', by Jose Maria Cabral from the Dominican Republic, the Mexican film 'Las hijas de Abril,' by Michel Franco, and 'X500' by Juan Andres Arango, co-produced by Colombia, Mexico and Canada, are also nominated for the Platino Awards.

Other films nominated are the Spanish-Argentinean 'La Cordillera', by director Santiago Miter, the Brazilian film 'Gabriel e a Montanha' by Felipe Barbosa and the Chilean-Argentinean film 'Los perros', by Marcela Said.
