The National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA) of Cuba is preparing a new series, which includes an exhibit titled ''Jesus De Armas: Drama and Utopia'', dedicated to the artist of the visual arts.

Scheduled for September 8, the exhibition will feature a score of pieces that cover his beginnings as a cartoonist and animator, as well as his charcoal drawings during the 1980s and 1990s.

As explained by the curator, Laura Araño, the fundamental core of the exhibition belongs to the MNBA and will dedicate a section about his work in the capital of French art, with the projection of an audiovisual material.

According to Arañó, it will be the first Cuban retrospective dedicated to De Armas due to the number and variety of pieces that show his less visualized areas.

Called the artist of visuality for his contributions to this field, Jesus De Armas is one of the world's most recognized creators and least studied in Cuba, despite the significance of his work and his remarkable contributions to the development of animation in Cuba.

Many of his investigations were related to the aboriginal culture and, precisely, his first works aimed to turn the caves' pictographs into artistic works.

His studies not only provided data on the beginning of civilization, but also visualized the broad framework of Cuban art.
