Rome Hosts Cultural Evening against US Blockade of Cuba

''Un son contra el bloqueo'' (A Son against the Blockade) is the name of the cultural event organized in Rome on Saturday to demand the end of the US economic, commercial and financial siege against Cuba.

Organized by the Timbalaye project, the Italy-Cuba National Friendship Association (ANAIC) and Mundo Cubano, the initiative will include a class on 'son', a Cuban emblematic musical genre, taught by Ulises Mora and Irma Castillo, president and artistic director of Timbalaye, respectively.

The singer-songwriter Victor Quiñones, ANAIC Vice President Marco Papacci and Liriaudis Marti, the president of Mundo Cubano, a group made up of Cuban residents in Italy, will also participate in the event.

During the activity, its organizers will update participants about the blockade and the growing aggressiveness by the United States government against Cuba.

Ulises Mora told Prensa Latina about the importance of opening all possible channels to fight the blockade, which has been tightened by the current U.S. administration in its unsuccessful effort to subdue the Cuban people.

He also warned about the need to spread by all means information about the validity of US hostility, because many think that it stopped with the beginning of the normalization of the bilateral relations during the government of President Barack Obama.

As artists living in this country and members of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and the Hermanos Saiz Brigade, we feel committed to the permanent fight against the blockade, a genocidal policy that violates international law and the human rights of an entire people, he noted.
