Havana, Oct 7 (Prensa Latina) The National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba will offer on Sunday a concert dedicated to the saxophone at the Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater, in Havana.

As the organizers pointed out, the repertoire will include works by European composers, among them, the French Claude Debussy and Henri Tomasi, the Spanish Cristobal Halffter, the Brazilian Villalobos and the Cuban Cesar Lopez.

The concert will feature several soloists playing the saxophone, as well as a quartet under the baton of Swiss conductor Lars Mlekusch.

The National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, directed by Enrique Perez Mesa, is the main artistic institution dedicated to the interpretation of orchestral works of classical music.

Since its foundation in the 60's of the last century, it has done an important work as a promoter of the national and international heritage of music of all times.

It has been directed by important figures of orchestral music, among them, the Soviet Aram Jachaturian, the Mexican Blas Galindo and the Brazilian Camargo Guarnieri.

In addition, it had outstanding soloists such as Russian violinist David Oistraj, pianist Cecilio Tieles and guitarist Leo Brouwer, both Cubans.
