Cuban Singer-Songwriter Considers New Constitution a Modern Project

Cuban singer-songwriter Israel Rojas, director of the band Buena Fe, described the new draft Constitution, which is being debated throughout the island until November 17, as modern and a reflection of society.

In an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina, the popular musician expressed his support for the text, because it protects the conquests of the Revolution.

Definitely, the process of updating the Constitution is very important, since it is an exercise of fundamental democratic participation which strengthens and makes the country advance towards what we want to achieve, he added.

In July, the National Assembly of People's Power approved the draft constitution and called for a popular consultation on the document, so that the people can enrich the proposal to be approved in a referendum early next year.

According to Israel, the complementary laws coming later as a result of the reform of the Constitution must support it, sustain it, raise it and make it a reality.

Rojas expressed his support for the text, including controversial articles such as 68, which defines marriage as the union between two people regardless of sex, as opposed to the current law of laws, recognizing it as the union between a man and a woman.

Contemporary society is mature enough to broaden the avenues of civil rights for all people, including those with different sexual preferences, there may be some areas of resistance but Cuba cannot delay the openings of these rights, stressed the singer.

The band Buena Fe has performed in several international scenarios such as the United States and a large part of Latin America, and will soon celebrate 20 years of artistic trajectory.
