American Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola Announces New Film

Los Angeles, United States, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) The American filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola returns as director with the film Megalopolis, considered today by critics as his most ambitious project in decades.

In an interview with local media, the director announced that the Megalopolis script, in which he has been working for years, beginning the search for the main actors and plans to start shooting before the end of 2019.

'This year I plan to start working on an ambition I've had for a long time, create a great work using everything I've learned during my long career. Since my beginnings at age 16, this will be something epic, on a large scale, which I'll name Megalopolis,' said thew filmmaker to Deadline magazine.

According to the filmmaker, the movie will be a super production with an extensive cast outside the conventions of contemporary realization based on his experience in filming for over 60 years.

Ford Coppola announced the project of this film in 2001 during the 54th Festival of Cannes, however the production process was stopped after the attacks of September 11 in New York, until now, 20 years later.

The film will be set in the Big Apple and will narrate an egos fight, between the mayor of New York, Frank Cicero, and the architect Serge Caitline, who wants to create a great metropolitan utopia, which is in contradiction with Cicero's plans.

So far, several names have emerged for the leading roles, among them British Jude Law, known for tapes like A.I. Artificial Intelligence, The Aviator, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Sherlock Holmes, Hugo, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Grand Budapest Hotel and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
