Maduro Highlights Legacy of Venezuelan Writer Romulo Gallegos
Caracas, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro highlighted Friday the legacy of novelist and politician Romulo Gallegos (1884-1969) on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death.
'We commemorate 50 years of the physical disappearance of one of Latin America's greatest writers, Romulo Gallegos. He was a Caracas native who was inspired by our plains to build a literary legacy that forms part of the national identity', wrote the President in Twitter.
Gallegos was considered the most relevant Venezuelan novelist of the 20th century and bequeathed emblematic works such as Doña Barbara, which has become a classic of Hispanic American literature.
He was President of the Republic from February 17 to 24, 1948 until his separation from power by the coup d'etat led by Carlos Delgado Chalbaud.
