From Rome, the remembrance

Roman Empire has inspired a huge quantity of audiovisual materials, not all of them with the deserved quality. But some of them have captured the favor of the critics and the audience.

By these days our Educative Channel is retransmitting, now with its original language and subtitled this time, the awarded series “Me, Claudio” based on the famous James Clavel’s book.

With Derek Jacobi acting the main character, embroidering his role of cripple emperor which he never wanted to be, retails all the horrors seen during the life that he had in the ancient Roma, with its murders, corruption and excesses, but also its indisputable achievements, that have arrived until us.

A series that, to me, a great admirer of this luminous and at the same time dark stage of humanity, I love, is "Rome”. In 2004, it was talked about the second season, where Kevin Mckidd shone, inside the great empire, as a soldier that had to stay far from his home, and the day that he had the custody of Julius Cesar, he knows that his wife has been cheating him during the 8 years that he was fighting in wars that he did not understand. That morning this emperor is stabbed by his 11 senators. Other characters, real ones, are presented: Marcus Antonio, Cleopatra (of course), Brutus and August (child at that time), etc.

The series was filmed in the respected Cinecittá studios, occupying 5 acres of land.
