Funeral of Famous Movie Director Franco Zeffirelli held in Florence

The remains of late Italian filmmaker Franco Zeffirelli were taken today to the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore, in the city of Florence, where his funeral will be held.

Thousands of Florentines paraded Monday before the coffin placed in the emblematic Palazzo Vecchio to pay tribute to the outstanding artist during the tribute in burning chamber.

With a relevant professional career in theater, opera and film, where he accumulated a filmography of 23 feature films between 1957 and 2009, Zeffirelli died three days ago in this capital, at 96 years of age.

His latest contribution to the world of opera was a new version of the 'Traviata', which will open the lyrical season at the Arena of Verona this year, on June 21.
