Famous Cuban orchestra Los Van Van wants to return to delight the public of the American capital on Thursday, after its presentation here a little over a year ago.

The concert at the Howard Theater is part of a month-long tour of several North American cities, on the half-century of the group's existence, marked next December 4.

Los Van Van put to dance the great majority of those who attended their performance in May 2018, during the Festival Arts of Cuba: from the island to the world, at the capital's John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and now they want to repeat that success.

It will be a different concert, but very nice and with love, anticipated in a telephone interview with Prensa Latina the director of the band, Samuel Formell, after referring to the differences of both scenarios. Our music is known by many people outside Cuba, but the American public has little access to it because of the US blockade against the island and other obstacles, said the musician, who stressed that his goal is to reach everyone.

He also highlighted the interest of the fans of the orchestra during the current tour, which began on May 30 in the city of Miami, Florida; continued in New York; and then had stops in Los Angeles and San Francisco, California.

The tour, scheduled to end on June 29 in Saratoga, New York, has been successful so far, and we are very pleased with the results, he added.

In Miami there were people with the malignant intention to prevent the concert from happening, because 'they have mixed ideas that are not good,' he said at a time when authorities in that city seek to avoid hiring artists from Cuba and eliminate the cultural exchange with the island.

However, he celebrated the presentation was made at the end, and in Studio 60, a space with capacity for about two thousand people, which closed doors without available spaces.

There were many Latin Americans attending the performance, respect prevailed, and our purpose was fulfilled, which is to bring Cuban music to any corner of the world, he emphasized on that event.

He also stressed that on that occasion they were with Los Van Van's former hot voices, Pedrito Calvo and Mayito Rivera, and as on previous occasions in Cuba and Mexico, the experience was very nice.

In addition, in Los Angeles, the orchestra founded by legendary Juan Formell, deceased in 2014 and father of Samuel, shared the stage with the Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, said the percussionist.

Formell commented that in these last performances in the United States they have played songs from the album Legado (Legacy), the latest production of Los Van Van, released in 2018.

We started there, to promote that creation that has been very well received in Cuba, in Latin America and in Europe, and halfway through the concerts, the most recognized songs of the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s arrive, he explained.

On the other hand, he pointed out that 2019 is a year of hard work for the orchestra with a tour inside Cuba and presence in the first International Timba Festival 'Forever Formell', dedicated to his father, scheduled for Havana, from August 2 to 4.

The group will also record a double album of hits, with performances in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Nicaragua.
