President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Saturday called to deepen into the history of Cuba as a tool to confront the onslaught of the United States and its allies in the continent.

The essence of that battle is ideological, it is cultural and it has a lot to do with the defense of history, the defense of our identity, the head of State said at a meeting with historians held at the Baragua Hall of the National Capitol.

He added that deepening into the anti-imperialist roots of Jose Marti and Fidel Castro, and dismantling the lies with which the enemies intend to distort events in Cuban and universal history are essentials.

According to the Presidency's website, Diaz-Canel highlighted the role of history in raising awareness, values and the overall general culture of our society.

The Cuban statesman also outlined the actions to be undertaken to achieve those goals: with works aimed at treating those issues by the best historians and professors, improving audiovisual production, with essential messages.

He also urged to work on these issues in a differentiated manner for different audiences.

The Cuban president referred to the need that historical contents are increasingly present on social media and digital platforms.

Diaz-Canel particularly mentioned the EcuRed encyclopedia: it can become this work on social media, linked to the computerization program, an authentic Cuban platform to deal with history, he said.
