Nancy Hernandez, an expert leading the delegation, told Prensa Latina that the Ecuadorians are showing an enormous interest in the offers brought from Havana, in the event taking place at the House of Culture of this capital.

"Our stand, if it is not the most visited one, it is among those of larger audience of the event," Hernandez said about a date where there are proposals from many nations such as Venezuela, China, Peru, Palestine, among others.

According to the director of the Jose Marti publishing house, among the titles already sold out are "Cecilia Valdes," a nineteenth-century novel of local customs by Cirilo Villaverde, and "Paseo por La Habana" (A Walk through Havana), a compilation of social and historic anectodes by Ciro Bianchi.

"Those books were already sold out but people keep coming to ask for them, and a lot of literature about the restoration of Old Havana, something we have to consider for coming editions, has also been requested," she stated.

In addition of the titles, Cuban writers also came to Quito to launch their works, such as historian Olga Portuondo, author of books as "La virgen de la Caridad del Cobre: simbolo de cubania" (The Virgin of La Caridad del Cobre: a Symbol of Cubanness), and "Un liberal cubano en la corte de Isabel II" (A Cuban Liberal at the Isabella II Court).

The researcher told Prensa Latina that the experience of coming is very rewarding, because in addition of having contact with a new audience, this is an opportunity to exchange with colleagues from this South American nation.

The Quito Book Fair began Saturday, November 22, and will run until Monday, December 1, with the Mexican publisher Fondo de Cultura Económica as a special guest.
