Representatives of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) talked in the framework of the 65th Berlinale with students from the Free University of Berlin on the cinema of their countries, diplomatic sources reported today. The organizers are part of the working group ALBA-CULTURE and is made up of the embassies of Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Venezuela, reported today the embassy of the island in Germany.

The event was attended by Juan Carlos Valdivia, director of the Bolivian cinema who participated with his works at the recently concluded edition of the Berlinale.

Together with Juan José Centeno, in charge of cultural affairs of the embassy of Bolivia in Germany, Valdivia explained the characteristics of this art form in his country.

During the event, Héctor Corcho, responsible for cultural affairs of the embassy of Cuba in Germany, presented a journey through the history of the seventh art on the island.

Corcho stressed the importance given by the revolutionary government to this art since 1959, when it founded a specialized institution as one of its first objectives.

Furthermore, he remarked the achievements in this area, the importance of the Latin American Film Festival that each year takes place in Havana and the participation of the Cuban filmmaking in the Berlinale, where 'Fresa y Chocolate' received the Special Jury Prize in 1994.
