According to what Jorge Iglesias, the singer’s nephew and representative, told EFE, he is scheduled to resume his artistic activities in Spain on Aug. 5 after a period of rest and recovery in Miami recommended by his doctors.

“Last week, Julio Iglesias had a small medical procedure (performed) in the lumbar portion of his back, as part of a routine checkup in New York. (The singer) will return to all his activities after the rest ... recommended by the doctors,” Jorge said in a communique sent to EFE.

Earlier in the day, it had been reported that the popular crooner was in good health and working in his Miami recording studio, where he is preparing for his Aug. 5 concert in the Spanish resort city of Marbella as part of the Starlite Festival.

Sources close to the singer confirmed to EFE that Iglesias is preparing for his appearance in Spain, which he plans to follow – in September and October – with a series of concerts in Mexico and Latin America.

“What the press is talking about isn’t true,” one source said regarding the reports that had appeared in various media saying that the singer was in a New York medical facility being treated for a heart problem.

Iglesias, 71, is not in the hospital nor has he cancelled his scheduled performances, according to sources consulted by EFE at the office of the singer’s agent.

Early in the year, rumors began circulating about Iglesias’ retirement but he himself told EFE: “Retire? Absolutely not. I’m going to sing more than ever.”

He did have to cancel – because of a heart problem caused by stress – a 2008 concert in Ekaterinburg, Russia, and four years before that he cancelled one in Kuala Lumpur, leaving his Southeast Asia tour to return to Spain to recover.

The singer of “Hey” and “Soy un truhan, soy un señor” is the most successful singer ever in Spanish, having sold more than 300 million albums.

In addition, he has been awarded Spain’s Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts along with the France’s Legion d’Honneur and he has a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
