The director of “Pulp Fiction” and “Kill Bill,” who early in 2016 will screen his new film “The Hateful Eight,” said that he was happy to have a star on the iconic sidewalk, adding that it was a “fantastic” day for him.

Outfitted in a denim jacket and bluejeans, Tarantino told his fans who attended the ceremony about his first experiences in Hollywood, when he was a boy and his parents took him to see films at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, including “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “Airport” and “Diamonds Are Forever,” the first James Bond film.

He added that he considered Hollywood to be his home even before he lived there, and said that he felt like a member of the community.

Tarantino was introduced by actor Samuel L. Jackson, who has worked with him on many of his projects. Given that it was Jackson’s 57th birthday, the crowd sang “Happy Birthday” to him.

Jackson emphasized the influence that Tarantino’s films have had, thanked the director for being the way he is and stressed his importance in the entertainment industry where the goal is to make people “happy.”
