Star Wars Becomes UK Biggest Film of 2015

With this figure, the seventh installment of the sci-fi saga has exceeded the 93.5 million pounds ($137.7 million) accumulated by Spectre, the latest James Bond film.

J.J. Abrams’s film also surpassed Avatar, which in 2009 reached 94 million pounds ($138.5 million), and replaced it as the second most successful film in the history of the United Kingdom, behind Skyfall.

The penultimate Bond continues to lead the list as the highest grossing film in British history, making $151.7 million in 2012.

Internationally, The Force Awakens became the fastest film to reach $1 billion in just 12 days, surpassing the record of 13 days in June achieved by Jurassic World, according to data from the BBC.
