The original version, which was directed by James Whale in 1993 and based on the novel of H.G. Wells, relates a story of a scientist who discovered a way to become invisible.

Together with other films like 'Frankenstein' or 'Dracula', 'The Invisible Man' made Universal Studios known for successful horror and monster films since the 1930s.

Universal now seeks to reboot 'The Invisible Man', starring Johnny Depp with producers Alez Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, however, details regarding the director and planned release date are still unknown.

The studio also announced that the remake of another classic horror movie 'The Mummy', which will star Tom Cruise, is in the development phase and is due for release in 2017.

By starring in 'The Invisible Man', Johnny Depp adds one more film to his list of projects as 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' will arrive in cinemas in May this year, while 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales', is set to be released in May 2017.
