Hurricane Harvey: Star-studded benefit concert for victims

Celebrities including Beyoncé, George Clooney, and Jamie Foxx will take part in a benefit concert to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Harvey next week.

The one-hour telethon will be broadcast live in the US on 12 September at 20:00 ET (15:00 BST).

Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief will also be streamed live on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

Hurricane Harvey brought devastating floods and displaced thousands of people when it hit Texas on 25 August.

The state's governor, Greg Abbott, has said the bill for reconstruction could be as high as $180bn (£138bn).

Proceeds from the concert will go to various charities including the United Way of Greater Houston, Save the Children, and the Mayor's Fund for Hurricane Harvey Relief.

Viewers will be able to donate by phone, text message and online from the start of the programme until one hour after it has finished.

On Tuesday night's episode of The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon also announced the show will be donating $1m (£762k) to the Hurricane Harvey relief fund set up by Houston Texans star JJ Watts.

The fund has raised over $20m (£15.3m) so far.

Concerts to Celebrate 58th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution

Havana, Dec 30 (Prensa Latina) To mark the 58th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution different Cuban musical performances will take place.

According to the program of the Ministry of Culture and the Cuban Institute of Music, three parks in this capital will serve as stage for Manolito Simonet and David Blanco, Puppy y los que Son Son, Toni Ávila, Tania Pantoja and Adrián Berazaín.

While squares and other public spaces in the municipality of La Habana Vieja (Old Havana) will host community book fairs with music and poetry recitals.

Pantoja and her group will perform tomorrow in the House of Music of the western province of Artemisa, and on January 1st in most of the country's municipalities orchestras, soloists, poets and amateur artists will perform in cinemas, cultural houses and other open spaces.

The day of celebration of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution includes cultural galas and music of different genres. Celebrations will continue until January the 3rd.

Omara Portuondo Gives Concerts in the U.S.A.

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 19 (acn) Cuban Diva Omara Portuondo will give four concerts in the United States as part of her 85 Tour, with which she will celebrate seven decades of artistic career.

During the tour, which begins today at the Brooklyn Academy of Music of the city of New York, she will be accompanied by young pianist Roberto Fonseca, Israeli clarinetist and U.S. violinist Regina Carter, as announced by the interpreter on her Web site.
 
The other presentations have been scheduled for Friday, October 21, at the Chicago Symphony Center, at the Lakewood Civic Auditorium, in Cleveland, on the 23rd, and will end on October 28 at the Knight Concert Hall of Miami.

Portuondo began in June a tour of several European and Latin American countries as part of the 85 Tour, in honor of the birthday of the so-called Bride of Feeling (referring to the musical movement of that name, which emerged in the 1940s).

Recently, the interpreter was nominated to a Latin Grammy for her CD Canciones de Cri Cri El Grillo Cantor , in Best Album of Latin music for Children, recorded under the Bis Music label and produced by Jose Manuel Garcia, with 13 songs by Mexican Francisco Gabilondo.

The names of the winners of the 17th edition of the Latin Grammies will be announced on November 17 at the T-Mobile Arena of Las Vegas, the United States.

Singer Descemer Bueno to Tour Cuba

Cuban singer and composer Descemer Bueno will tour several provinces from June 15 to 30 where he will play known songs from his repertoire and his next album, Cuerpo y Alma.

Bueno will start the long voyage on the 15 by Guantanamo province, and then he will perform at the Amphitheatre Mariana Grajales in Santiago de Cuba (17), in the parking lot of Calixto Garcia Stadium in Holguin (19) and in the Plaza San Juan de Dios in Camagüey (22).

On the 25th he will be present at the Amphitheater of Varadero in Matanzas and will conclude the tour on June 30th in the parking lot of Latinoamericano Stadium in Havana, the musician told reporters.

At concerts, Bueno said, I'll play my own compositions that have been hits in the voice of other singers, and now I would like to defend as an artist.

He added he will sing songs from the CD Bueno and will release part of the repertoire of his next phonogram, a double album titled Cuerpo y Alma.

Referring to the new phonogram, the author of the popular track Bailando, noted it will feature twenty songs that includes titles like 360 grados and Mátame.

These CDs have many guest artists, he stated, including Spanish singers Rosario Flores and Beatriz Luengo, Estopa group and Colombian singer Jorge Villamizar.

Descemer Bueno is one of the most Cuban popular musicians of the moment, with a very particular style, and has been internationally recognized for his compositions.

He has collaborated with renowned figures of Cuban and foreign music scene such as Leoni Torres, Buena Fe duo, Kelvis Ochoa, X Alfonso and Enrique Iglesias.
