Cuba Reiterates Regulations on Public Health Professionals

The Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) has reiterated today the willingness to allow professionals in the sector to abandon their collaboration missions to return to Cuba and the reintegration into the National Health System.

According to the communique, released by Granma newspaper, the legislation that has been in force since 2014 responds to the current immigration regulations.

The document also recalls that the Parole Program for Cuban Medical Professionals, which was abolished on January 12 by the then President, Barack Obama, which was established during the administration of George W. Bush in August 2006, stimulated that practice.

The MINSAP's note emphasizes that the international medical collaboration that the Caribbean island has offered is based on volunteerism and the comprehensive attention to the needs of those collaborators in and outside the country.

They have a stipend, attention to health, food, accommodation, and air and land transportation; they keep their work and receive the full salary in Cuba, as well as the benefits of social security for him/her and his/her family.

About 50,000 health workers are currently working in more than 60 countries with a deep humanist vocation and solidarity, capable of adapting to difficult conditions, the entity recognizes.
