The Small Grants Programme (SGP) of the Global Environment Facility projects today the financing of 50,000 dollars for the opening of a Butterfly park, located in the Botanical Park of this city.

The plan included in the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is also part of the international collaboration agenda of the University of Camagüey (UC), whose specialists are technical advisors, in conjunction with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA).

Experts of the Delegation of CITMA referred here the importance of the butterflies for the diversity of the ecosystems in which they live.

The facility, located 5 km from the city declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity, will also promote the approach of the public to the life cycle of a butterfly, and will offer information about the benefit of these lepidoptera for the traditional gardening that allows their reproduction.

The national coordinator of the UNDP, Fabio Fajardo, stated that the project, bases and norms that legislate the program are to be passed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, according to the Cuban norms for international cooperation.
