From Washington that group is still trying to block the bilateral rapprochement and even to hinder it.

AFP (France Press) journalist Alexandre Gros Bois has just analyzed how that difficult process is going on.

Amplified in Miami by El Nuevo Herald, he pointed out that it progresses even when certain divergences “seem difficult to be overcome”.

He recalls that since the December 17 bilateral announcement polls have shown the majority support of US citizens for the Cuba policy change.

Bois adds that since then a number of events have taken place but actually unconceivable so far.

In order to endorse it he quotes Obama requesting the Congress to study the possible lifting of the “embargo” (blockade) imposed against the island in 1962.

Add to this that he removed the island from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

In addition, he mentioned his meeting with President Raul Castro during the Summit of the Americas in Panama.

And finally, he stressed that now both countries are in the process of re-establishing diplomatic ties suspended by Washington in early 1961.

Everything happens as extreme-right conservatives in the style of Marco Rubio, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Díaz-Balart, try to reverse what has been achieved.

This was highlighted by an editorial published a few days ago in Diario las Americas titled “Friendship with Mistrust”.

Its first lines play down credibility to everything that follows when they state: Cuba, for more than fifty years, developed a hostile relationship with its northern neighbor.

Even primary school children in this continent --moderately informed– know that this idea is a gross lie.

And later they enlarge it when they shamelessly dare to say that Havana rejected “any kind of rapprochement” with the United States.

In another moment, the Diario las Americas editorial states that Obama should not believe in the friendship of those who have been historical enemies of his country.

Some questions help demonstrate the opposite.

During the time stretch ranging from the 18th century to the present, has Cuba ever tried to vary the course of events in United States?

Has it occupied even one millimeter of its territory through a military invasion?

Was the island able to impose an “amendment” to its Constitution that would empower it to act freely in its major domestic affairs?

Did it dissolve the armed detachments that fought to oust British colonialism from its colonies?

Who eliminated Cuban Liberation Army, decisive force in defeating Spanish colonialism here?

And in that context it took advantage of circumstances to take over the best lands, sugar mills and basic utility companies.

But now a very current detail could be added to what has happened: once the island was occupied militarily, U.S. imposed the existence of a naval base.

In the early years of the 1960s, who conceived, financed, organized, trained and sent mercenary forces to invade, bombard and cause deaths and injuries here?

The answers ‘absolutely objective’ to those questions easily settle the version wielded by Diario las Americas on “the historical enemy”.

Or rather, they put the latter in the place that truly corresponds to it.

Meanwhile, one thing seems certain, the far-right game in Washington and Miami against the highly welcomed Cuban-American rapprochement will continue.
