Fidel Castro awarded Honoris Causa by Bolivian universityHAVANA, Cuba, Aug 3 (acn) The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, was awarded the Honoris Causa title by Bolivia´s Universidad Nacional Siglo 20 for his anti-imperialist legacy and his solidarity with the humblest nations of the world.

The University authority recalled the life and work of the Cuban leader before and after the 1959 revolutionary triumph and stressed Fidel´s support and solidarity towards the humblest countries of the world, and Latin America in particular.

University rector Jose Guillermo Dalence said that such solidarity is expressed by the thousands of Cuban doctors saving lives in so many parts of the world, the thousands of young people from around the world who are taking studies in Cuba, the Operation Miracle free eye surgery program and the literacy program known as Yes, I can, which helped Bolivia eradicate illiteracy.

Cuban diplomat in Bolivia Eric Valdes thanked the gesture by the University and said that Fidel will be very happy to receive the title from such a higher education center.

The Honoris Causa title is an acknowledgement to professors who leave a legacy and this is the case of Fidel. He taught us the real meaning of the world solidarity, said the diplomat.
