Representatives of European Left Party on a Visit to CubaHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 6 (acn) Deputy Yolanda Ferrer, president of the International Relations Committee of the National Assembly of the People's Power (ANPP), received on Tuesday a delegation of the Party of the European Left, headed by its Vice-president, Maite Mola.

Accompanying Mola are other representatives of the parties that make up that political family, such as the French Communist Party, the Communist Re-foundation Party of Italy and the Greek Zyriza.

During the fraternal meeting, Ferrer informed visitors about the updating of the Cuban economic model, and basically its social aspects.

She explained the work of the National Assembly as the supreme organ of power of the Cuban State and the role of deputies in Cuban society. In this regard Maite Mola said that Cuban democracy is one of the best in the world.

Yolanda Ferrer also expressed her appreciation for the unconditional support European left parties have given the Cuban people and the demonstrations of solidarity in issues such as the release of the Cuban Five and the struggle that is carried out for the lifting of the U.S. blockade, which has lasted more than 50 years.

The members of the European delegation commented on the situation currently faced by the left-wing movements in Europe, and in this regard the Italian representative said it is necessary to strengthen a European left that joins Europeans against the arrogance of the right.

They also expressed their interest in aspects such as the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States, the updating of the economic model and the characteristics of the Cuban electoral system, which they acknowledged as "very democratic".

The two delegations exchanged experiences and learned about the social realities of the European continent and the Cuban nation, respectively.

Cuba was also represented at the meeting by deputies Lazaro Barredo and Antonio Hernandez, and by Omar Torres, an official of the Department of International Relations of the ANPP.
