Within the programme of Rutas y Andares on its 16th edition to discover in family, for August 2016 a special journey has been designed about the 90th birthday of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.

Hence every Fridays of the month, until next 19th, there will be visits to several institutions linked to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution.

The main event for this Route, scheduled for Fridays 5, 12 and 19 will be the opening of the law-office Azpiazo-Castro-Resende. Located in 57 Tejadillo Street, apartment 306, in Old Havana. In that Havana space worked the lawyers Jorge Azpiazo, Rafael Resende, and Fidel Castro.

Fidel worked as a lawyer between 1950 and the early months of 1952 taking on fair causes, the defense of neighbors in the capital threatened by evictions. He intervened in favor of labor representatives from the Mercado Unico against yellow union elements; and he pressed charges against the corruption of Carlos Prío’s government.

According to sources at the Direction of Cultural Administration from the Office of Havana Historian, by the end of summer the law-office Azpiazo-Castro-Resende will be open to the public, but the visit will always be reserved in-advance since it’s a very small space and only groups of ten people will be able to visit it.

Other places with histories and collections related with Fidel will also be part of this special Route for Fidel's 90th birthday. Among those places, located in the capital’s eldest area, appear are the Oswaldo Guayasamín House, the House of Africa, the Simón Bolívar House, the Armory April 9, the Juan Gualberto Gómez House, Government's Palace, the Numismatic Museum, the Tobacco Museum, and the Museum of the Revolution.

Photographs, visual arts, bibliographical, and audiovisual on different moments of Fidel’s life will be exhibited for those who choose this journey. The point of departure for this special Route on Fidel’s 90th birthday will be at the Armas Square, every Friday of August, starting on Friday 5th, at 10: 00 a.m.

The 16th edition of Rutas y Andares to Discover in family, organized every summer by the City Historian Office is a choice to reunite with part of the historical-cultural patrimony of the Cuban capital. This year 2016 the route has included new proposals and seven routes - four specials -, and different tours every week, as well as creative workshops.
